BEACH PLEASE

Our guide to getting the best out of Privilee, the VIP way to lounge on a beach in the UAE
ByEllen KerrySunday , 22 October 2017

Ever wondered how some people on Instagram seem to be living the life of Riley, right here in the UAE and they’re not CEO’s of mega companies? After a bit of careful Insta-stalking and investigating we think we have found the reason why.

See: Designer Crocs. Would you?

Privilee is a VIP membership scheme that allows the user access to some of the swankiest hotels and resorts around. For a monthly fee (or yearly depending how you want to splash the cash) you could be spending each weekend lounging on a fluffy towel-covered sun lounger, being waited on hand and foot by attentive staff. Sounds pretty dreamy right?

As well as being able to lounge on private beaches, Privilee provides access to kids clubs, gyms, pools, tennis courts and can get you discounts in restaurants and spas.

We tried out Privilee over summer and it turned weekends into even fancier occasions. Instead of spending our post-brunch Saturdays chasing the sun around our apartment pool, we could head off to The Westin and lie on a deeply comfy sunbed with a giant towel right in front of the sea. That experience somehow made our post-brunch daze feel slightly less painful.

Different resorts offer different benefits and treats. For instance, The Westin is super easy for anyone living in the Marina or near Dubai Media City. At the midday point a member of staff brings around iced towels to so you an mop your sweaty brow. After a day spent on the beach you can easily wander to Barasti for sundowners.

The Waldorf Astoria on the Palm felt super secluded, almost like you’re on a distant island. One of the best perks about hanging at this beach is the free bottled water. A major must when you’re sunbathing in the baking sunshine. The food here is also incredible. We munched on the cheeseburger and truffle fries then enjoyed the cheeky 20 percent discount off the bill. Here you might get a fruit kebab or sorbet to try at sporadic points throughout the day, too. The infinity pool is also a pull and great for perfect that #smug Insta shot.

The Fairmont on the Palm was another that impressed us. While the private beach is a bit of a walk from the pool, the distance actually helps to drown out the sounds of kids dive-bombing into the pool. Which is a bonus. The yellow towels are also cheery (hey, we’re easily pleased). We found the staff at The Fairmont very attentive and kind. While we were there we were offered complimentary bottled water and a couple of sorbets to taste. Yum!
