It was advertised as an Atomic Kitten concert, but without the Kittens. And now it's all kicked off...

When popular girl band Atomic Kitten performed in Dubai last month at Le Meridien Dubai’s Wow That’s What I Call Brunch, it was roaring (or is that purring?) success. But when we heard the Kittens were returning to the UAE just one month later, we were suspicious. Two gigs in the space of a month? Something wasn’t right.

The original members (Kerry Katona, Liz McLarnon and Natasha Hamilton) of the noughties pop band reunited a couple of years ago and have been performing concerts and festivals around the world ever since. However, due to Liz’s severe fear of flying, she gets replaced by Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton during international gigs. This arrangement seems to be the catalyst of the recent Dubai disaster, which ended up with just 21 people attending the “Atomic Kitten” concert.

Organisers in Dubai initially sold the 11 October event as an Atomic Kitten concert. The press release read: “Are you ready to re-live noughties girl band mania all over again? Cleartrip, a leading mobile and online travel company in the Middle East, brings pop music lovers in Dubai the chance to dance the night away with Atomic Kitten on Wednesday, 11 October 2017 at Roda Al Bustan. Fans can expect to feel Whole Again as Michelle Heaton, Kerry Katona and Zoe Birkett celebrate their much-loved songs at this one-off event.” Fans immediately responded with a “huh?!” Only Kerry was in Atomic Kitten, and even that is questionable, considering she was only around for their first album. Making matters even worse, Kerry cancelled her attendance at the last minute after falling ill in India. Which left two girls, who have never been in Atomic Kitten, to perform at the concert.

At the very last minute, banners were changed to Atomic Kitten’s Kerry Katona, Liberty X’s Michelle Heaton and Zoe Birkett, but the damage was already done.

According to Mail Online, Atomic Kitten's management have said they are pursuing legal action against the promoter for falsely advertising the concert as an official concert, because Liz, Jenny [Frost] or Natasha were never invited to perform. “The Mumbai concert was not nor ever was supposed to be an Atomic Kitten gig and has been falsely advertised by the promoter to which effect we are currently pursuing legal action against,” read the statement. “This same promoter has then promoted another gig in Dubai once again falsely advertised as the girls where never even invited to attend to perform.”

Original member Natasha Hamilton was also furious. She raged on Twitter: "This makes my blood boil!” Continuing her strop, she added: "That poster deffo says Atomic Kittens...deffo NOT an AK gig!!! You give an inch…."

Poor Atomic Kitten. It’s pretty much like Team Ahlan! singing at Lucky Voice and calling it a Spice Girls concert. Tickets, anyone?
