Dubai's Art Season Kicks Off with UAE Culture Fest Sikka
Want to learn more about the UAE’s upcoming artists, musicians and filmmakers? Then head to the city’s historic heart for a uniquely Emirati culture fest which grows bigger every year.
Running for 11 days this month, Sikka Art Fair highlights UAE creative talent, offering a platform for on which to showcase work, share ideas and mingle with artists from all over the world.
Held in Dubai’s oldest neighbourhoods, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood – AKA Bastakiya – and Al Shindagha, among other places, Sikka features a heap of community-oriented arts and cultural activities including open-air film screenings, live music and entertainment, cultural walks, artist-led talks, workshops, and demonstrations.
Now in its fifth year, it’s welcomed thousands of art enthusiasts to the city’s historic Al Fahidi and Al Shindagha districts and is organised by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the emirate’s authority dedicated to promoting culture, arts and heritage.
Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “SIKKA marks a significant milestone in its new edition serving as the definitive platform for emerging local talent to showcase their artistic work.
“A community event that encourages budding artists, painters, sculptors and musicians to contribute to the burgeoning arts scene in Dubai, SIKKA fosters the exchange of creative ideas among artists, inspires new talent and boosts Dubai’s position as a cultural hub in the region.”
He added: “With each passing year, we’ve observed a tremendous improvement in the all-round quality of works showcased, highlighting the creative excellence of our country’s talent. SIKKA has also expanded its creative sphere of influence to highlight talents in music, live performances and film.
“The fair now is one of the most comprehensive showcases of creativity and a must-attend event not only for the artist community but every culturally conscious visitor to gain vivid insights into the artistic landscape of the UAE.”
