Ahlan! Under The Needle: Botox Review
It happens to all of us at some point. You look in the mirror and your skin has aged. Lines across your forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes. I’ve always looked after my skin and used the best moisturisers, but after turning 31 recently, I noticed that the lines on my forehead were deeper than ever. Even worse, when I smiled in photos, there were suddenly lines around my eyes. I knew it was time to take action, and in a bid to undo the damage and halt my forehead’s aging process, I headed to Atlantis’ ShuiQi Spa to meet with London Centre for Aesthetic Surgery’s Dr. Maurizio Viel to try Botox for the very first time.
I’m not a big fan of needles, so I was admittedly nervous about the process. But once I arrived at the lavish ShuiQi Spa, I knew I was in good hands. Dr Viel first sat down with me and explained to me exactly how Botox works on the skin, giving me insight into the procedure that celebrities swear by. In fact, he went into great detail, even drawing the explanation on paper. He also did a thorough examination of my skin, pointing out the areas that would benefit.
Once we were ready to do the procedure, I was completely relaxed. He opted to inject six areas on my forehead and around my eyes. Truth be told, it was slightly painful. The thinner skin even more so. However the pain only lasts for a few seconds. If you’re the squeamish type, there is also a numbing cream option, but personally I don’t think it’s necessary. In fact, when I go again, I’ll skip the numbing cream option again. Within a few minutes it was done, and Dr Viel briefed me on the aftercare. I was careful not to touch the skin too aggressively for 48 hours afterwards, and avoided massages.
As for the results, it took approximately 10 days for the Botox to fully work. And when it did, I was thrilled! The lines on my forehead slowly smoothed out and disappeared, and so did the pesky crow’s feet around my eyes. The best part is that I still have movement in my eyebrows, thanks to Dr Viel’s expert precision. I was scared of obtaining a “frozen look” that happens when people go overboard on Botox, but luckily that isn’t the case. And people have noticed the difference! Instead of my friends and family asking me if I’ve done something to my face, I’ve repeatedly been asked why I’m looking “so fresh”. I couldn’t be happier with the results!
So will I do it again? Absolutely, yes! Dr Viel explained that the effects would last approximately three months, perhaps even longer. My only complaint? I wish the results would last forever!
The good news is that ShuiQi Spa offers a variety of other treatments too, including Natural Hyaluronic Acid Fillers, teeth whitening and Mesotherapy.
