As the only country in the world where you can start the day by slaloming down snow-covered mountain slopes, have a lunchtime dip in the Mediterranean and then finish up the day with duty-free shopping, Lebanon is the ideal holiday destination.

One of the most well-known skiing resorts is The Cedars, which has been drawing visitors since the 1920s. Situated in a basin, it has slopes that are perfect for beginners and also offers more challenging alternatives for seasoned skiers, including cross-country courses through the beautiful Qadisha valley. And just a short drive away, you’ll find the Mediterranean, with plenty of nightclubs and restaurants nearby for apres-ski.

Capital city Beirut offers a great shopping experience, with around 350 outlets in the city selling everything from accessories to antiques. Look out for the Tax Free Shopping signs across the country’s stores, which will entitle you to a 10 per cent VAT refund when you leave the country.
