Devastated JOHN TRAVOLTA has revealed for the first time how he battled to save the life of his only son JETT.

The Pulp Fiction actor frantically gave his 16-year-old son CPR after finding him unconscious but still breathing in the bath.

But his efforts were futile when, it is believed, moments later the youngster died in his father's arms.

Paramaedics are also believed to have tried to revive the teenager, but it was too late.

Grease star Travolta, 54, said: "I tried the kiss of life for about 20 minutes. I wouldn't give up. Jeff gave Jett CPR.

"I did everything I could to keep Jett alive. The paramedics took over from me when they arrived."

Despite their efforts, Jett was pronounced dead at Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Grand Bahama.

A post-mortem in to the cause of his death is taking place today and tomorrow, but it is believed Jett, who suffered from seizures for almost all of his life, has taken unwell, had another seizure which resulted in a fall where he hit his head and was then found in the bath.

Travolta's lawyer Michael McDermott, who has joined the star, his wife Kelly Preston, 46, and their daughter Ella, eight, said: "I like to believe John had a chance to say goodbye. Jett may have died in his dad's arms."

Tragic Jett had a condition that caused "death-like" seizures at least once a week. But despite rumours that the boy was suffering from autism, Travolta refuses to acknowledge the condition because of his deep Scientology beliefs - which state there is no such thing as mental illness.

The star is said to be furious at recent reports he and his wife had denied their son the nedication he desperately needed because of their beliefs.

The family are also said to be outraged at police claims that Jett may have been left alone for up to ten hours and say they have been left devastated by the tragedy.

In a statement they said: "Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered,' the star said in a statement posted on his website www.travolta.com.

'We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time that we had with him for the rest of our lives."

Mr McDermott added: "'Kelly is still very quiet and withdrawn, but she is coping.

"You only have to look at them both to see the pain, it is etched into their  faces. They have not had a lot of sleep.

"It is hard to know what to say to a couple who have just lost their son."
