They dated, they split, and in very un-Tinseltown fashion, they're still really good friends...

George and Renee first dated back in 2001 after she split from her Me, Myself And Irene co-star Jim Carrey, and have paired up again - this time for George's new flick, Leatherheads.

But it's not just the film that has brought the besties together, as their joint interview in US magazine W, last week showed.

"We've been married 28 years," Renee joked. "No, it was 27 years. We lived together the first year. It was a lot of fighting," George insisted.

The history
The secret to George and Renee's success is that the pair, who have been friends for over 10 years, were pals before they dated, making it easier for them to return to that after they split.

"George doesn't even know how important his opinion has been to me over the years," revealed Renee. Adding of her role in his new movie, "I don't want to disappoint him."

So, why did they split? Hollywood-watchers agree it was over Renee's desire for a baby.

"[She is aware that] her biological clock is ticking loudly," revealed a pal. Adding that the actress's marriage to Kenny Chesney also ended over his reluctance to start a family.

The future
Rumour had it the pair had got back together in 2003, after George presented Renee with a Dhs110,000 diamond bracelet for Christmas. And the pair were seen "huddled together" and "canoodling" at last year's BAFTAs party.

All of which leaves us thinking that if Renee and George (who's currently going out with waitress Sarah Larson), are both single at the same time, they just might start dating again. Watch this space...
