Anantara Resort
If you've ever dreamed of waking up, heading out onto your private deck and having the beach right there in your back garden, the Anantara resort, just a 30-minute speedboat ride from Male airport, is sure to fulfil your every vacation fantasy. With its choice of water suites and beachfront villas, the uber-luxurious resort, is the perfect destination for couples on a romantic getaway. With exquisite dining facilities - and we really recommend dinner on the deck at the Fuddan Grill, with it's fresh seafood menu - it will take a lot to lure you out of the rooms, with their outdoor rain showers and deep baths, just perfect for leisurely nights in under the stars.
While you're there:
Book an island picnic - one of the resort's specialities - and enjoy the crystal clear waters and white sands of a nearby deserted island, as well as a gourmet lunch or candelit dinner all to yourselves, with not a soul in sight. Visit www.maldives.anantara.com for more.
One & Only Kanuhura
Time genuinely stops still at One&Only, from the second your seaplane slides across the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. The spa, with its signature treatments using locally sourced products, and the daybreak yoga sessions will appeal to the relaxation seeker, whilst vacationers who like to stay active can work up a sweat on the tennis or squash court, before sliding into the freshwater pool. And with a choice of eight bars and restaurants - we loved Cove's, where you can dine with your toes in the sand - it's the place to laze away your days.
While you're there:
Book a snorkelling or diving trip. There are over 40 dive sites around Kanuhura, including two shipwrecks and a Manta point to spot rays. Visit www.one&onlyresorts.com
Huvafen Fushi
Ever wondered where Kate Moss goes for her holidays? Well, the super packed herself and six of her besties - including Sadie Frost - off to Huvafen Fushi for some serious R'n'R. With a choice of beach bungalows or ocean bungalows (we'd seriously recommend the latter), the accommodation, with its plunge pools, amazing deck areas and Jacuzzi baths, is truly beyond your most luxurious dreams. Snorkelling is a must and you're sure to spot the baby reef sharks, which inhabit the area, and if you've built up an appetite in the water, enjoy a healthy lunch at Raw or indulge yourself at the laidback Celsius restaurant.
While you're there:
You must experience the resort's famous underwater spa, and enjoy a relaxing massage and post-treatment fruits, whilst watching the myriad of colours and marine life on the reef. Visit www.huvafenfushi.com
Hilton Rangali
This resort, spread over two islands and joined by a bridge across the Ocean, is bigger than the other destinations, and better for holidaymakers seeking a more resort feel. With it's luxury shopping facilities and truly amazing selection of cocktails, the Hilton Rangali is the resort for the funkier traveller. And the villas? With a choice between staying on the beach or out on the water, you'll never want to leave them! From the outdoor rain showers, to the pool-sized baths - themselves set within mini Temples Of Venus under star-like lights in the jungle-esque gardens - and the swimming pools beyond the deck with the beach stretching out beyond, Rangali island is a luxury accommodation seeker's dream come true.
While you're there:
Be sure to make a reservation at the legendary underwater restaurant, Ithaa, and enjoy a unique dining experience 16 feet below sea level. Visit www.hilton.com/worldwide resorts for more.
Star sightings
Kate Moss and Sadie Frost were just the latest celebs to jet into the Maldives, and the likes of Eva Longoria, Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas, Jude Law and Penelope Cruz have all flown off to enjoy the white sandy beaches and escape the paparazzi.
