Yes, you read that right. A kebab cake. It's a praiseworthy attempt at making the Guinness Book of Records, only it's slightly too weird to fall under any category at the moment!
MerCURRIES Lounge & Restaurants launched a new concept of fine dining contemporary Indian cuisine last week and invited us all along to try the menu. Whilst we were expecting a fine line in curries (hence the name) we couldn't, in our wildest dreams, have imagined the true wonder that is the kebab cake. It's truly genius - three layers of spicy meat to have you reveling in the memories of all those nights walking back from the club when you were a student. Only, in a more elaborate setting than the back streets of Bristol. It's cold too. Who says a cake has to be for dessert, or even sweet? Meat it up and have some fun, says the chairman of MerCURRIES - Abdulla Al Daboos.
Also on the menu was Indian sushi - a rare combination of herb treated meats and vegetables in a sushi wrap. Yummy! We didn't even think it was possible.
Set in a lounge-style restaurant with low lighting and a banquet table with water feature in the middle, MerCURRIES does everything right - except perhaps the Celine Dion montage playing on loop on the plasma screens. Still, one bite of that kebab cake and all is forgiven.
We know what we'll be requesting on our next birthday.
