Moustaches can be hot - right? Well, sometimes. We're not opposed to Orlando Bloom's sudden, er, bloom, and we know that under Borat's hairy smile is a pretty fine Sacha Baron Cohen. Although we'd probably draw the line at Tom Selleck.

Movember was born on a lazy Sunday afternoon in 2003, when a couple of Aussie mates decided the ‘Mo' (Australian slang for moustache) was in dire need of a comeback. With the support of some friends, they launched the first Movember campaign, culminating in about 30 ‘Mo Bros' (guys growing mos) and ‘Mo Sistas' (women who support Mo Bros and help raise funds) in an Australian bar to celebrate and crown the first "Man of Movember." They also chose to support prostate cancer - a serious disease that one in six men will encounter in their lifetime.

Movember was repeated, year after year, growing in success and numbers of men willing to grow their facial hair in the name of charity. In 2006, the challenge expanded to include New Zealand and more than 56,000 Mo Bros rose helped raise close to AUS $8 million for the prostate cancer foundations of Australia and New Zealand.

This year, Dubai's getting in on the act - and lord knows there's enough facial fuzz out there to raise a dirham or two, if harvested correctly.
