JOHNNY DEPP quickly grew sick of the sight of blood on the set of new musical Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - because it was absolutely everywhere.

Director Tim Burton insisted on a bloody mess as his ghoulish barber slashed clients in gory scenes.

Depp says, "I remember everyone except me being covered in plastic trash bags. There'd be a countdown: 'Three, two, one... action!' And then blammo... the great deluge.

"It tasted kind of like a Karo-syrupy sort of thing. It was oily and it was dangerous, slippery.

"You'd see these big English grips, tiptoeing through the swamp of blood."

Sounds delightful. Can't wait for that one to hit screens here.
