They may have fame, money and beautiful homes, but nothing could save our favourite Tinseltowners from the wildfires that ripped through Malibu last week. And as local authorities continue to rebuild the smouldering remains, we take a look at who's been affected...

In the line of fire
Jennifer Aniston, Sting, John Travolta, Mel Gibson, Courteney Cox, Tom Hanks, Cindy Crawford, Bill Murray, Nick Nolte, Goldie Hawn, Pamela Anderson, Val Kilmer, Jim Carrey and Diana Ross are just some of the big names in Hollywood that were in danger from the fires that started early last week. With an area of California the size of New York in flames, the Hollywood elite had to be prepared for the fact that they could lose their homes.

Who was evacuated?
Not only did the wildfires claim a plot of land belonging to Sean Penn, they also threatened to scorch the home of Frasier star Kelsey Grammer, who was evacuated from his beach house.

"All I saw was smoke, but we're OK. We're safe. We got the dog, we got the kids," said the actor.

And Kelsey wasn't the only celeb evacuated. Director James Cameron, Jane Seymour and Olivia Newton-John had to abandon their luxury homes, while Anthony Hopkins, was told to pack his bags in case.

Tori Spelling and her hubby, Dean McDermott's B&B was also evacuated along with the celeb's fave rehab hangout, Promises. And J-Lo had to cancel her Sand Diego show... so at least maybe some good came out of it!

What the celebs say?

Arnold Schwarzenegger:
"Very dry areas, very hot weather and then a lot of wind... make the perfect storm for fire." Arnie points out the obvious.

Halle Berry:
"It's frightening. I live in Malibu so I'm worried about my neighbours, my friends, my family and my house because it's a very old property."

Jamie Lee Curtis:
"We build houses where we shouldn't build them, we're living in the worst drought this country's ever had and we pretend that we're not and we water our lawns," she blasts. "We've done this, we've created all of this."
