Bab Al Shams
An oasis in the desert, Bab Al Shams offers authentic Arabia just half an hour from the chaos of modern Dubai.
Room: The rooms at Bab Al Shams are truly unique. Drawing influence from ancient Arabia each one oozes authenticity and rustic charm (aside from the plasma TV, of course). The rooms are peppered along the resort's intricate stone corridors, each one with a different view of the surrounding landscape.
Pool: You'll be hard pressed to find a more impressive pool in Dubai. Set against the backdrop of miles of desert this infinity pool offers complete relaxation and tranquility. Check out the Jacuzzis under the stone canopies and then relax with an ice cold drink in the pool bar.
Food/bar: The hotel has a plethora of restaurants to choose from. We loved Al Forsan restaurant which offers an A La Carte menu or a stunning buffet, catering to all palates. Also available are Pizzeria Le Dune, for a taste of Italy, Al Hadheerah for Arabic cuisine and Masala Indian restaurant. For after dinner drinks and shisha head to the Al Sarab Lounge and just soak up the desert silence. With all of this on offer there really is no need to leave the resort.
Top tip: If you've had enough of lazing by the pool everyday, Bab Al Shams offers great activities to couples and families. Take a ride in one of the 4X4s and enjoy your own personal desert safari, or take in the Arabian desert on two wheels and hire a pedal bike. Alternatively try your hand at golf or go for something a little more traditional with a camel ride.
