Veg out
Alicia Silverstone credits her healthy figure to her vegetarian lifestyle, jam-packed with plant-based foods.
"If you want to lose weight just focus on your health. You don't have to have a diet mentality at all if you eat healthy, plant-based foods," she insists.
Her secret? "Honestly, you should add more kale and Swiss chard to your diet. Look at my skin. It works wonders. All you need to do is eat wholegrains or plant-based foods. If you eat this way, you simply can't be fat."
Vital facts:
Kale and Swiss chard are both loaded with fibre, cancer-fighting vitamins and minerals, plus, one cup of boiled swiss chard contains only 35 calories! Sautée with some chopped garlic and a splash of olive oil for a nutritious side dish with dinner.
Water works
Load up on liquids
We should all be downing at least two litres of water a day to ward off dehydration and hunger pangs (drinking water is a great appetite suppressant), but if plain old Masafi doesn't tickle your taste buds, you can always jazz it up like Beyonce, by adding chicken or vegetable broth to a cup of boiling water for a filling snack at only 20 calories.
Vital facts:
Another way to liven up your liquids is by drinking herbal tea, but read the box as many fruit teas have added sugar, meaning they're not as virtuous as they may seem.
Healthy attitude
Curb your carb cravings
As Rihanna knows, the key to a successful diet is combining a nutritious diet with exercise.
"It's all about trying to eat healthy and be in the gym to feel better. If you look at it that way, and not like you're trying to lose weight, then it's more successful," explains the singer.
Her diet is packed with veggies, egg whites, and platefuls of fruit, plus lots of water.
"Carbs are the enemy," she insists.
Vital facts:
Although it's not healthy to cut out carbohydrates altogether, it's better to eat the majority of your carb intake at breakfast and lunch and have a protein-rich meal for dinner.
Say cheers
Go easy on the vino
Most of us are partial to the odd glass of wine, but more than the occasional indulgence can have a serious impact on your waistline. When Meryl Streep had to fit into her designer wardrobe for The Devil Wears Prada she quickly learnt how to curb her cravings. Her top tip? "Push that wine bottle away after the first glass. That's what I did for Prada."
Vital facts:
Whilst a glass of red wine contains cancer-fighting antioxidants, more than one or two glasses per day can seriously damage your liver. Don't be fooled by supersized measurements either. A standard glass of wine should be no more than 125ml.
