Glastonbury 2008

As far as festivals go they don't get any bigger than GLASTONBURY.

This weekend the cars, tents, port-a-loos and biggest rock stars on the planet rolled into the little English village of Pilton to put on one of the biggest shows on earth.

This year the controversy over the attendance of rapper Jay-Z threatened to cast a shadow over the event, but the crowd seemed none the wiser when the music mogul hit the stage, especially as new wife BEYONCE could be seen watching from the wings.

AMY WINEHOUSE proved a ubiquitous presence over the weekend, following her performance at Nelson Mandela's Hyde Park birthday bash, with another show-stopping set as she headlined on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury on Saturday.

The 23-year-old seemed to forget about her troubles, if only for 90 minutes, as she belted out all her best loved tunes. After the show Amy headed back to the London clinic where she is currently being treated for emphysema.

Fellow troubled rocker, PETE DOHERTY was forced to take to the stage alone after his band BABYSHAMBLES cancelled their headlining slot just hours before.

The group's appearance at the legendary music event was thrown into jeopardy after they pulled out of a concert at Norway's Hove Festival on Thursday night, amid reports Doherty is tired of performing live.

The troubled star has also reportedly fired the Babyshambles tour manager after a blazing row - and the band has now scrapped all remaining tour dates for 2008.

But Doherty defied reports and decided not to let fans down again by playing an acoustic solo show on Glastonbury's Park Stage - where Babyshambles were expected to performed.

Pete's former love KATE MOSS is an omnipresence at Glastonbury and can invariably be seen hanging off the arm of one rock star or another. Last year Pete was bestowed the honour, but this year it went to currently squeeze, JAMIE HINCE of THE KILLS.

Other non-performers to be spotted hanging around, generally trying to look cool, included rock-spawn KELLY OSBOURNE and PIXIE GELDOF as well as singer LILY ALLEN.
