Vince was one of the first visitors to Owen's home during his suicide recovery and he's now positioned himself as one of the key players in Owen's get-over-her strategy, treating him to strip bars and poker nights.

Kate left Owen as he couldn't commit and fellow frat packer Vince will empathise. Vince lost Jen Aniston because he couldn't promise her a future, so he understands his buddy's plight. Plus, as an archetypal male, his in-built guy switch would be in ‘outrage mode' learning of Lance's deceit. Not least because he's been friends with Owen long enough to remember it's not the first time - Lance also swooped in on Owen's ex Sheryl Crow.

Filming Marley & Me together in Miami when news of Kate and Lance's romance broke, Jen was on-hand with tea and sympathy. Not only does she know how it feels to be publicly wronged, but before Kate's break-up with Owen, she flew into a jealous rage on hearing rumours of chemistry between Jen and Owen. While innocent Jen was secretly enjoying her own romance with John Mayer, she finds it ironic that her accuser has become the accused.

Matt may have stepped into the breach when his fellow surfer dude Owen had to drop out of filming Tropic Thunder last year due to his suicide attempt, but his free-wheeling naked bongo-playing days are numbered.

Now that Mattie's about to become a dad, he has more in common with three-time father Lance, than with the blonde-haired hippy. Added to that, the fact that he refers to his frequent co-star Kate as his "sister", he's assured family man Lance is a safer bet in the ‘won't-break-her-heart' stakes than the famously hard to tame Owen.

Jake Gyllenhaal
We love Jakey, but he plays it straight down the line. Raised in posh New York society (he even dated the President's daughter) he's all for family values, so he'll be siding with cycling bud Lance over ‘troublemaker' Owen. He recognises Lance can offer Kate and her son a secure future and straight-as-a-die Reese will be behind him. As the future stepfather of her kids, he's also got his career to think of, and as Jake's been tipped to play Lance in an upcoming biopic, we don't think Owen will get a dinner invite to the Witherspoon-Gyllenhaal's any time soon.
