Admittedly, those die-hard sequin wearers out there don't immediately register in your mind as super-stylish: Shirley Bassey, pantomime dames, dodgy cabaret singers... the disasterously dressed list goes on. But, thanks to heavyweight design houses like Chanel and Oscar De La Renta, this anti-sequin stance is all set to change.

Spangle-loving celebs have been spotted in black-as-pitch sequinned dresses, jackets and leggings, shimmering under spotlights and sparkling in front of paparazzi flashbulbs on red carpets everywhere. Rumer Willis, LiLo, Rachel Bilson and Diane Kruger have all fallen for the twinkly allure of this magpie trend, and the high street has been quick to create some disco worthy options that are well within the budgets of us mere mortals.

Great with matte fabrics and neutral colours, especially grey, the look fits in well with the current 30s/40s retrospective. So prepare to dazzle - dance floor or no dance floor.
