Baldie Beauties
Cameron Diaz has a shocking new look - but she's not the first Hollywood beauty to trim her tresses - Take a look at our image gallery
CAMERON DIAZ shocked fans this week when she unveiled her new look - a smooth, shiny bald head.
But followers of the, usually blonde beauty can breathe a sigh of relief. Her shorn bonce is just clever stage make-up for her role in her latest flick MY SISTER'S KEEPER.
In the film Cam plays a mother who shaves her head in support of her cancer-stricken daughter.
However, the actress is not the first female star to tear out her tresses in the name of art.
No, Cameron is the latest in a long line of Hollywood beauties who have hacked off their hair for a movie role.
The winner of the most infamous head-shave has to be BRITNEY SPEARS who chopped her locks with her own bared hands in front of TV crews and paparazzi.
Britney's ‘haircut' came at the height of her meltdown last year, but thankfully everyone's favourite school girl seems to be getting her life back on track and can be spotted around Hollywood sporting some (rather dubious) extensions.
In a bid to step away from her clichéd pretty-girl roles of the Eighties DEMI MOORE got acquainted with her razor for her role in GI JANE, where she played a tough-talking, gun-toting soldier. However, despite being hairless, the film was a flop and Demi was not taken as seriously as she had anticipated. The following year, the then Mrs BRUCE WILLIS reverted to type, playing a lady of questionable morals in STRIPTEASE.
SIGOURNEY WEAVER famously shaved her head for her role in the sci-fi flick ALIEN 3. Luckily for Sigourney, she did not suffer the same fate as Demi and was critically acclaimed for her performance.
NATALIE PORTMAN got the clippers out for her 2006 film V FOR VENDETTA and despite still looking stunning, the film was not as big a hit as anticipated.
SAMANTHA MORTON clipped her blonde locks for her role alongside TOM CRUISE in MINORITY REPORT.
AMERICAN BEAUTY actress Mena Suvari got rid of her blonde locks last year, but not for a movie role. The actress, whose most famous role was playing a blonde cheerleader, just felt like a change.
The head-shaving ritual is also given a nod in TV culture with KIM CATTRALL losing her blonde 'do in Sex & The City and a famous scene in Friends when Ross' girlfriend gets razor-happy. EMMA THOMPSON also lopped off her locks for her role in HBO series Wit and so did FELICITY HUFFMAN in Desperate Housewives.
The music industry is also littered with bald babes - most famously SINEAD O'CONNOR who has sported the look for more than two decades.
Pop star KYLIE MINOGUE was forced to go bald when she lost her hair to breast cancer in 2006. But, following months of treatment, the miniscule star got back to her stunning-self by sporting a cropped pixie cut.
TV presenter GAIL PORTER, is another hairless wonder after losing all her hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes, to alopecia.
