Last month, 50 Cent declared, "If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I'll no longer write music." And, well, Kanye did just that, managing to shift 957,000 copies of Graduation compared to Fiddy's 691,000 sales of Curtis. And although the hardman rapper insisted, "I'll write music and work with my other artists, but I won't put out any more solo albums," he immediately had a 'toys out of pram' moment, cancelling his entire European tour and refusing to appear at the upcoming MOBO awards in London.

And so, with his collaboration with Justin Timberlake, Ayo Technology, languishing way behind West's Stronger in the US charts, it looks like the hip hop world could be saying farewell to the Fidster.

Two words for you (well, technically a word and a letter): Jay-Z. Remember his laughable retirement plans when, back in 2003, the rapper announced that he'd had it with rap and was giving it all up? Fast forward to 2006 and Jay, decided he was retiring from retirement. And Jay-Z wasn't the only one. Another of 50's besties, Eminem, 'retired' after his aptly titled album, Curtain Call. But... guess who's back?

And if you've got an ego the size of Fiddy's, which needs constant massaging by his entourage, groupies, video vixens, billboard chart positions and awards, there's absolutely no way that he's going to voluntarily leave it all behind. He'd probably rather get shot another nine times.
