Geordiebird and Catboy
Dubai's award-winning breakfast djs
Geordiebird and CatboyGeordiebird
When Geordiebird cornered a friend into offering up a few adjectives to describe her, the largely complimentary phrases included “funny haha, mischievous, confident and impossible to fall out with.” “I’d like to think she’s right about most of that but nowadays I’m a lot better at making people fall out with me!” retorts Catboy’s other half, co-host and self-proclaimed chief tea-maker.
Notoriously late for everything, her secret to success is setting two alarms in the morning, “or maybe even three.” She openly admits her timekeeping is to blame for some rather blush-worthy memories, “My life is strung together by embarrassing situations. I spent 5 months training for the Standard Chartered Marathon 10k and then slept in on the day of the race and missed the entire thing. I shamefully walked into the rendezvous point at the Westin an hour and a half after the race to many ‘I’m disappointed in you’ glances.” As her major goal for 2010 is to scale Mount Kilimanjaro with Gulf 4 Good, and “working my socks off putting everything into making our breakfast show bigger and better,” perhaps investing in a few more alarms mightn’t go amiss for this gregarious Geordie...
“People believe that if you live here you’re loaded, cocky and flashy. That’s not true of all of us. I am but I know a few people who just arrived who aren’t”
Catboy
For someone that claims they fell into radio presenting “by accident ten years ago,” Catboy’s certainly a natural performer once a microphone is placed in front of him. Dubai’s been waking up to his breakfast show on Dubai 92 that he co-hosts with his wife and fellow raconteur Geordiebird for over four years and if the collection of accolades and shiny awards the pair are rapidly collecting are proof, their quick quips and witty banter are better than ever. “After a year when we’ve had the biggest cash giveaway on UAE radio and the omnipotent Barasti Big Deal, I’m looking forward to see what competitions we can pull-off in 2010. I’d very much like to take some listeners to the World Cup Finals in South Africa (if the bosses are listening!)” Catboy cheekily hints. Far from the rock n’ roll lifestyle we assume our resident DJ is living, in reality his perfect day involves fans, food and felines, “A good show in the morning with lots of calls from listeners, a roast at The Rivington, then a quiet afternoon with the cats, that’d be great.”
“Each day is a blank canvas. When everything falls into place, it doesn’t really feel like work.”
