It's known as a piece of an ever-expanding Dubai that for once, is quite safe from losing its character and original charm. The XVA Gallery in Bastikya is an impressive Iranian settlement with over a hundred years of history. It oozes vibrancy and modern inspiration, but reminds us of times gone by in a peaceful, welcoming, Creek side location (aaah).

Doubling as a hotel, the Gallery offers Asian and local art and features exhibitions from the likes of Mohamed Yousef Ali, Ismael Al Rifaa and Nadia Shihabi, to mention just a few. The nine rooms themselves, situated around two gorgeous courtyards and wind towers, are stunning. Quite small in size, a four poster bed and a bathroom is pretty much all you need, and sleeping by the rays of soft moonlight creeping through the cracks above the windows is an experience you won't forget. The government of Dubai has done a cracking job in restoring the wind tower houses. It's the kind of place visiting parents would enjoy - you know the kind of historical exhibits that invoke those "ooooohs" and "aaaaahs" from a mother who would shun the very thought of a cuppa in the disgustingly modern Burg Al Arab?

To top it all off, there's a floating dhow, on which are held events and art classes. We're told you can even do yoga on board, and receive natural healing and home remedies. Sounds lush doesn't it? Where do we sign?
