Dubai Fashion Week 2008

MARC ROBINSON, an Indian actor and model, is organizing Dubai Fashion week, which will run from March 19-22, 2008 at the Godolphin Ballroom in the hotel tower at Jumeirah Emirates Towers.

Speaking to him, it's clear there's much excitement in the air as he and team rush around sorting it all out!

"I've been directing shows all over the world, and choreographing for a long time in the industry and I really thought that as a busy retail port, Dubai needed its own fashion week. This is the third year we've done it - last year we were in the Royal Mirage but we needed a bigger venue, a bigger ballroom for more people, more buyers and designers. In essence, we've upgraded!"

And an upgrade is most definitely what invitees can expect!

"We've got catwalks, a whole range of cutting edge designs, 16 shows, 4 or 5 a day, 31 designers. We've got some really big Bollywood designers, big ones,..." he promises!

Dubai Fashion Week (DFW) is a 'by invitation only' fashion trade event, aimed at bringing together major advocates of the fashion industry by providing them a single platform. This year, the leading fashion trade event has formed a partnership with Isla Moda - the world's first dedicated fashion island! Together they are set on establishing Dubai as a global fashion hub, offering conscious individuals the ultimate haute couture experience, exclusivity and a truly bespoke lifestyle (we can't wait!). Who knows, in a few years, we could well be experiencing Dubai Fashion Week on Isla Moda itself!

Says Marc:

"Dubai currently has the grand slams of tennis. We're hoping that eventually, Dubai will become the fifth grand slam of fashion. So far we have London, New York, Paris and Milan. Dubai will soon be on the map!

The venue, Godolphin Ballroom in the Hotel Tower of Jumeirah Emirates Towers will include the collection show area, sponsor display stands, an on-site media centre, media hospitality lounge, trade buyer hospitality lounge and dedicated media conference room for designer and other sponsor media conferences.

The shows will kick off at 3pm and will run through the day with the last show starting at 10pm.
