Persia PersiaThe classy white and blue decor provides a cosy, welcoming atmosphere as you enter this unique eatery on the second floor of the Wafi Hotel, while the large clay oven, with its fiery glow in the corner, heats up your appetite.
Dive straight in with a basket of the delish old-fashioned bread, freshly baked in the huge oven and served in piping hot triangles with fresh yoghurt and herbs for dipping. Then enjoy a light Kashk-o Bademjan – layers of fried eggplant topped with traditional sun-dried yoghurt and mint – so sweet and fluffy, it’s best smothered onto the morerish bread! A side of vine leaves filled with beef, rice and lentils is also a must.
Seafood lovers will adore the char-grilled hammour fillet marinated in lime. Served with golden saffron on pita, and gorge lemon mayonnaise, it’s bursting with tangy flavour.
The lamb however, is Persia Persia’s pride and joy, so a shank, stew or kebab of this slow-cooked tender meat will impress you the most. The lamb okra stew, slowly simmered in tomato gravy offers an authentic taste, while the lamb tenderloin, marinated overnight in yoghurt sauce is also something
very special.
Dessert is very different to the usual listings of cake and ice cream, including yummy Bastani-Ye Akbar Mashti Persian – pistachio saffron ice cream. There is also a mouth-watering fruit selection for those watching their waists!
Each evening from 8:30pm a live band belts out Persian tunes to add to your experience, while the reasonably priced – and extensive – wine list ensures there’ll be no panic when the bill turns up.
