Do Valentine's Dinner @ home
With this easy-peasy menu sure to make him fall in love!
This year, instead of heading out for dinner, why not get creative and do Valentine's Day at home? Even if you don't cook much, there are lots of special things that you can do that aren't hard:
- Open up some oysters to serve as an appetizer. All they need is a drizzle of lemon juice and they're ready to serve.
- For a main course, serve steamed fish with rice. It's very simple, elegant, and, perhaps most importantly, incredibly easy to make. All you have to do: Marinate bass fillets in garlic, olive oil, and soy sauce for about 30 minutes, then cook a pot of white rice--but about 10 minutes before the rice is done, lay marinated bass fillets on the rice, covering tightly and letting steam with the rice.
- Or impress with a really amazing steak. Get something out of the ordinary, like an 18-ounce ribeye to serve two. Rub it with garlic and put it in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 10 minutes. Take it out of the oven and let it rest. While the meat is resting, whisk together some garlic, parsley, olive oil, soy sauce, and lemon juice and drizzle it over the steak just before serving. With a simple spinach salad, it's a simple meal that'ss sure to be impressive.
- For dessert, there's nothing more romantic than chocolate-covered strawberries. Make the simple ganache recipe below and you can end the evening dipping strawberries and feeding each other. Very romantic!
- And lastly, serve Champagne. Don't worry about pairing the right wine with each course. Drink Champagne throughout the meal instead.
Chocolate Ganache
2 tablespoons heavy cream
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon brown sugar
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, roughly chopped
Bring the cream and the sugar to a boil in a small saucepan. Reduce heat to low. Whisk in the butter and chocolate and stir until melted.
