The Great Celebrity Death Hoax!
Since Jacko passed away, A-listers are dropping ‘dead’ faster than you can change your Twitter status...
The Great Celebrity Death Hoax! We’d only just recovered from the shock of MICHAEL JACKSON’s – unfortunately very real – death last week, when reports hit the internet that celebs including George Clooney, Britney Spears and Jeff Goldblum had also popped their clogs and gone to join MJ in the big VIP room in the sky.
But before we even had time to light our candles and mount our memorial plaques on the wall, the A-listers re-emerged alive and well and blaming their cyber deaths on pesky internet hackers.
Ahlan! charts which celeb death reports were greatly exaggerated...
George Clooney
George was alerted to an internet buzz that he had died when his publicist starting getting frantic calls last week from media outlets – and pals – who were understandably shaken by his ‘demise’.
Jeff Goldblum
As reports of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett’s deaths swamped the internet last week, news spread that The Fly star Jeff had fallen to his death from a cliff in New Zealand. “He is fine and in Los Angeles,” said his publicist.
Miley Cyrus
Miley was targeted by hackers late last year when a vid was posted on YouTube, stating, “Miley died this morning after being hit by a drunk driver. She always told us if anything ever happened to her, then tell her loyal fans first before the public.”
Harrison Ford
Rumours Harrison Ford had “disappeared” while on a boat in the French Riviera hit the net around the same time as Michael Jackson’s death was announced, sparking panic amongst Indiana Jones fans.
Patrick Swayze
Patrick Swayze was forced to call an impromptu “I’m alive!” photocall earlier this year, when Twitter-generated Chinese whispers claimed that the Dirty Dancing legend had lost his battle with cancer.
Britney Spears
Pranksters hacked into Brit’s Twitter account last week and tweeted, “Britney has passed away. It is a sad day for everyone. More news to come” – prompting two million followers to descend into temporary hysteria.
Natalie Portman
Showing a startling lack of originality, Twitter hackers claimed last week that Nat had died after falling from a cliff in New Zealand. We’re sure we’ve heard that one before...
