Reality Bites
Why three of Hollywood’s biggest female stars have turned to reality TV to save their careers...
Reality BitesDesperate for work
Lindsay Lohan
Reality TV show: Contestants will compete for a prize of Dhs3.6 million to turn their lives around.
And in real life...: Lindsay’s most recent flick, Labor Pains went straight to TV and, publicly shunned by her ex-bestie Nicole Ritchie her career’s hit the skids.
Can TV save her? Producer Ryan Seacrest says, “Met with Lindsay last night about a show idea I have for her… it helps people [get] a second shot.”
She says: “Working on a really great project for television – I am excited! Something meaningful like Extreme Home Makeover.”
Career dead end
Katie Holmes
Reality TV show: So You Think You Can Dance, which is due to air in the US in August.
And in real life...: Katie hasn’t worked since her cameo role in TV show Eli Stone back in 2008, and before that she was in the critically mauled Mad Money. The actress has surprised Hollywood-watchers by choosing to appear on SYTYCD rather than opt for the higher profile Dancing With The Stars.
Can TV save her? A move back to the small screen in a respected drama would be a better vehicle for the actress, who has struggled at the box office. But with two new movies in production – a comedy opposite Kevin Kline and a drama – it remains to be seen if her dancing will influence movie-goers.
They say: A SYTYCD source spilled, “She looks incredible. She is just doing an amazing job. Everyone is absolutely floored by how talented she is.”
Back to her roots
Jessica Simpson
Reality TV Show: The Price Of Beauty.
And in real life...: Jessica’s country singing career has floundered after a series of disastrous concerts. And with her most recent appearance on another reality TV show I Get That A Lot – in which she played herself pretending not to be herself – Jess doesn’t have many career avenues left to follow.
Can TV save her? Exploding into the public eye thanks to her and Nick Lachey’s reality TV show Newlyweds, the star’s ‘Jessica-isms’ struck gold, so she’s returning to her roots.
She says: “I know how much pressure some women put on themselves to look perfect,” she says of the show’s premise.
