It's beautiful, luxurious and relaxing, so it's no surprise that celebs keep flocking to this beach-fringed volcanic island, whenever they want to get away from Hollywood.

Located near Puerto Rico, Saint Barthélemy - to use the country's full name - is an island in the Lesser Antilles region of the Caribbean. And with its gorgeous beaches, French and Swedish histories, friendly locals and laid-back charm, this idyllic paradise island is totally perfect for those seeking some tranquil time away.

While you're there

Explore The Old Town
Being a relatively small island with steep hills, St Barts only has one main town, Gustavia. Named after King Gustav III of Sweden, from when the Swedes owned the island, the old town is a mix of Swedish and French - to whom the island was sold in the 1800s. So, don your sandals and take a wander.

Bask At The Beach
St Barts is home to over 14 beaches! And best of all, not only are they covered in beautiful white sand, but they are all open to the public - so who knows which celebs you could bump into? However, Grand Saline beach on the southern side of the island, or Colombier beach - which can only be reached by boat or by a long hike - are the firm faves for tourists and locals alike. Whilst Shell beach, with its many tide pools - fab for splashing about in - is the best beach for families.

Step Into The Water
Whether it's diving, surfing or water skiing, you can do them all in St Barts. Lessons and guided tours can also be arranged for snorkellers keen to see the nurse sharks, lobsters and green sea turtles in the surrounding waters. And fishing enthusiasts can try their luck hunting tuna. Also, the Grand Cul-de-Sac beach, with it's reef closing off the entire bay, is the perfect place to learn to sail, windsurf or kitesurf.

Try Some Sports
There's over eight tennis courts for those who fancy themselves as a bit of a Federer. While numerous horseriding and hiking trails make exploring the entire island easy. Alternatively, you could also indulge in the island's favourite sport - volleyball.

Live Like A Local
With no pumping night life on the island, you can either head to Bar'to at Guanahani for drinks, or join the locals on Saturday night at the AJOE tennis court in Lorient to catch a movie projected onto a huge painted wall.
