Heath's last movie - halted

Filming on the set of Heath Ledger's final film ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' has been abandoned, following his tragic death last Tuesday.

The cast of Terry Gilliam's new fantasy movie had recently finished filming in London and was set to relocate to Canada, where shooting was to begin at Vancouver's Bridge Studios. But now production on the star's last movie has reportedly been halted.

A source tells America's Us Weekly magazine, "I just got the call (on
Tuesday) saying everyone was being let go. We were supposed to start this weekend, but obviously they fired everyone today."

Meanwhile, it's been reported that Heath made director pal Shekhar Kapur promise to wake him up, just hours before he is believed to have taken a fatal drug overdose.

Filmmaker Kapur had just arrived in New York from London when he phoned Ledger on Monday evening (21 Jan 08) to arrange a meeting.
He recalls how the Brokeback Mountain star talked him into giving him a wake up call the next morning.

Kapur says, "I last spoke to him the night before he died. He said he could not see me that night but really wanted to meet me the next day. He made me promise that I would call him in the morning and wake him up. I tried. Little did I know that his soul had already left his body.


"He was one of the most gentle, most honest, most caring, and most compassionate persons I had met."

An autopsy carried out on Wednesday failed to determine the actor's cause of death, although police believe it to be drug-related, as a number of prescription pills were found around his bed. More tests should give us more information soon.
