Dark wood, cream walls and murals that depict traditional Belgium scenes are combined with a convivial pub-like ambiance which has won the restaurant a firm following of fans. The casual dining concept however, is just part of the story, because those who frequent Leon De Bruxelles, do so for one main reason, which is the daily shipment of fresh mussels the restaurant orders in from Europe. The fresh Leon mussels are either cooked in skillets, casseroled or served with a large variety of excellent homemade sauces – and they certainly don’t disappoint. Recommendations include the steamed fresh mussels, Leon’s royal seafood grill and the moules au gratin. In typical Belgium style, the dishes are served with a generous side-order of chips, which should then followed by the mouth-wateringly good waffle menu. Certainly for seafood lovers, this is a must-visit venue. But be warned – going with an empty stomach is essential.
