With its relaxed atmosphere, comfortable setting and great terrace for alfresco dining, The Grand Grill at the Habtoor Grand is a clear winner in terms of ambiance and location. Overlooking Dubai Marina, this South African steakhouse is not for the faint-hearted or vegetarians. Dark wooden décor, large, leather seats and enthusiastic service makes any hungry and carnivorous diner salivate with anticipation, but this is especially so when there are menu options enigmatically named ‘bunny chow’ and ‘bobotie’. Happily, these two dishes come highly recommended, with the bunny chow translating as curried chicken tucked inside fluffy bread which is accompanied by tart mango pickle. But naturally, it’s the steaks that steal the show, with a tempting selection of South African and Australian wagyu prime fillets to choose from. Desserts are also impressive, with particular reference the chocolate mousse, which is just as fluffy and rich as it should be. The Grand Grill is known for its birthday celebration appeal, and the waiting staff, authentic to the core, like to sing the Afrikaans version.
