Manga Sushi
Art meets comicbooks meets quirky Japanese concepts - and some truly excellent cuisine
Manga SushiTo say Manga Sushi’s interior décor is unusual, is rather like suggesting that Tiger Woods is ‘quite good’ at golf. Decked out to look more like the Starship Enterprise than a café, only with lots of wide-eyed cartoon characters on the walls, the restaurant resembles a futuristic space ship with an eccentric Japanese twist. As the name suggests, Manga (a super-popular form of Japanese comic book art) plays a very big role in all this, especially when it comes to the waitresses, who, incidentally, are all charmingly attired as ‘Manga Girls’. Basically, they are dressed to resemble anime schoolgirls, and can sometimes be spotted breaking simultaneously into dance routines. But they are friendly lot who don’t seem to let their kooky uniforms get them down, and Manga Sushi is an excellent place to enjoy an entertaining lunch or supper in a truly atmospheric environment. With a superb selection of authentic and modern Japanese dishes, first-timers to the café should take the opportunity to sample the dragonball rolls, the tomato lobster miso soup and the new age king fish sashimi.
