Her hot new movie is panned, and he's internationally ridiculed over his Scientology video. Ahlan! asks: Are Tom and Katie finished?
The highly controversial new book by Andrew Morton, Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography was just the tip of the iceberg.
Naturally, the revelations that hardcore Scientologists believe that Suri's father is actually the late religion's founder, L Ron Hubbard; that Nicole is being "blackmailed" by the cult and that Tom is second-in-command at Scientology HQ, got the whole world talking... but at the end of the day, Tom and his people denied the claims made in the surefire bestseller, released last week, branding them "sick" and "lies".
But then, that video of Tom, ranting incomprehensible rubbish about Scientology hit the Internet, turning the troubled actor into a global laughing stock, in the same week that Katie's new movie, Mad Money was blasted by critics, with one reviewer declaring, "[Katie] looks terrible and acts worse."
Ahlan! goes inside TomKat's humiliating week and reveals exactly who's to blame for their public embarrassment... themselves!
The video
Tom's ridiculous rant - made four years ago when he accepted the Freedom Medal of Valour award at an International Association of Scientologists event - has made the actor an international laughing stock.
Posted on youtube, and then removed after legal action from the Scientologists, the video has since been re-posted making for shocking viewing, as Tom rants...
In it, Tom rants,
"Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident. It's not like anyone else when you drive past. You know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one that can really help."
"We are the authorities on the mind. We are the authorities on improving conditions. We can rehabilitate criminals. We can bring peace and unite cultures."
"I think it's a privilege to call yourself a Scientologist, and it's something that you have to earn, because a Scientologist has the ability to create new and better realities and improve conditions."
The Other video
More revelations about Tom's true feelings came thick and fast, last week, when another damaging video, showed him criticising the post-9/11 clean-up operation in New York - insisting Scientologists would have done a better job. He said on camera...
"A Scientologist is someone who can look at the world and really see what it is... and be effective and do something about it, and someone who's not asking permission to do that. "Why ask permission? We are the authorities!"
"The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) came out and said the air was clean. Of course, as a Scientologist, you go, ‘That's a lie; outpoint lie'. You know, you just go, ‘Liar. Fine.'"
Tom vs Psychiatry
Tom already made his views clear about psychiatry, when he got all finger-pointy during his embarrassing US TV interview with Matt Lauer. But now he's started ranting again, this time, coming across as rather threatening.
"We (Scientologists) actually have an easier time getting people off heroin and methadone than these psychiatric drugs, and I've worked very diligently to educate people about this," Tom declares. "We have the ability to be able to fight [drug companies], to be able to crush these guys. Oh, I'm going hard on those guys, and their reign... psychiatrists. I've had... I mean... I've absolutely had it. It's disgusting to me... No mercy. None. Psychiatry doesn't work." Chillingly adding, "It's a crime against humanity."
Katie's movie flops
She famously turned down the offer to reprise her role as Rachel Dawes in the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight - with rumours abounding that Tom disapproved - instead choosing to make the bank heist movie, Mad Money alongside Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah.
But Katie - if she's still capable of independent thought - must be ruing her decision, after the movie was critically panned, with The New York Times branding her "the movie's weakest link".
While the acerbic Wall Street Journal scathingly noted, "Katie Holmes... pops her eyes, scrunches her nose and shakes her booty in lieu of acting."
Your questions... answered!
Q. Who is letting Tom make such an idiot of himself?
A. For 14 years, Tom's publicist was Hollywood legend, Pat Kingsley, who kept his Scientology links very firmly under wraps - knowing his opinions would put off fans. When they parted ways, Tom hired his sister, Lee Anne DeVette - also a Scientologist - who decided to let Tom start his preaching.
Q. Why has Jennifer Garner suddenly been linked to Tom?
A. The new book on Tom alleges that Jen Garner (left) was also being considered as a ‘potential wife', and that Tom left her voicemail messages in 2004, asking if "she knew what freedom was?"
Q. Does Tom really believe Scientology's ridiculous and weird claims?
A. Very much so. In his own words: "I was doing an interview with someone [and] she said, ‘I want to know who you are,' and I said, ‘Know... I'm a Scientologist.'"
