The yacht-filled Cote D’Azur provides a faultless backdrop to the achingly hip French seaside town of Cannes. From the glamorous shopping and glittering nightlife along the bustling thoroughfare of La Croisette, to the quaint winding cobbled streets of Le Suquet in the old town, it’s hard not to fall in love with the star of the French Riviera.

Wander along the boutique-lined Rue D’Antibes, where immaculately-coiffed people personify the glitzy Cannes lifestyle, complete with designer clothing, sports cars and pedigree pooches – the perfect complement to the runway couture on sale. Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix and Chanel are just some of the names you’ll find amongst the chic emporiums and specialist stores.

People come to Cannes to party, so your choices for evening entertainment are vast. Brummel, with its mirror-lined dance floor, is one of the best nightclubs, though the unique entertainment at Disco 7 also draws the crowds, while Jimmyz is a fun throwback to old school French discos – and is a fave with visiting celebs – although you may have to mortgage your house to cover the drinks bill!

Follow up a night on the town with a day in Le Suquet, where picturesque buildings and cobbled lanes create an air of age-old romanticism. Meandering roads lead gently uphill to a number of historic buildings and the Musée de la Castre, which hosts a selection of art and antiques. You’ll be wowed by the spectacular views of the bay and the neighbouring island, Iles de Lérins, before winding your way back downhill to the local market, Marche Forville, which is crammed with quaint delicatessens and wine merchants.

Staying in a luxury Cannes hotel is the icing on the cake. The Majestic Barriere Cannes, on La Croisette, offers deluxe sea-view rooms and private beach access. Relaxation is key at Hotel Martinez, where the spa’s Lancaster and Sothys treatments soothe you after a day of tanning sur la plage.

While you're there...

Escape to the movie set

Escape the mainland by hopping on a ferry to nearby Sainte-Marguerite – where the port offers cafes, pubs and restaurants, in addition to being the setting for Leonardo DiCaprio’s film, The Man In The Iron Mask.

Dine Like a Star

During the Cannes Film Festival, the hottest place for celebs to eat out is La Palme D’Or, established by the Taittinger family (of the champagne fame). Overlooking the sea and La Croisette, the seasonal menu offers haute cuisine – the wild strawberry dessert with Grand Marnier-flavoured nage and ‘cream sauce of frozen milk’ is highly recommended.

Absorb the vintage hollywood vibe!

Le Carlton Casino Club in the Carlton Hotel, made famous in the clasic movie, To Catch A Thief, starring Grace Kelly, is definitely worth a stop for a full-on glamour-fix. Formal wear is required, so get dolled up to fit in with the high-rolling crowds.
