Anne’s award-winning bod!With her first ever Oscar nomination under her belt, Rachel Getting Married star ANNE HATHAWAY is pulling out all the stops to make sure her body is red carpet-ready for this year’s Academy Awards. Following a special routine to perfect her already svelte figure, Anne has flown celebrity personal trainer DAVID KIRSCH, to her California home to step up her intensive workout plan for the fortnight leading up to the event to guarantee she looks fitter and more fabulous than ever.
Working out with Anne for almost a year, David has increased the actress’s muscle tone to make her look leaner. But to ensure she’s in ultimate shape for the Oscars, the notoriously tough trainer-to-the-stars has tailored her daily workout to focus on the bits Anne will be showing off the most in her designer gown – her arms, shoulders, and the whole of her back (so we’re guessing there’s a backless frock in the offing!) Brilliant bum: platypus walks
Stand with feet wide, and toes turned out; hold a medicine ball or dumb bell overhead. Bend knees and lower your butt into a squat. From here, take 10 steps forward, pushing off through each heel. Then walk backward for 10 steps.
Cracking calves: plié toe squats
Stand with feet more than hip-width apart, toes turned slightly out, hands on hips. Squat, lifting heels off floor as you do so. Hold for five seconds. Return to standing, keeping heels lifted, then lower them back to the floor. Repeat 15 times.
Awesome arms: push ups
Get into push-up position, bend elbows and lower chest toward floor; push back up and then rotate torso left, lifting left arm straight up toward the ceiling. Return to start and repeat, lifting right arm. Repeat 15 times on each side.
Waspish waist: the plank
Get into a raised push-up position with hands on a medicine ball (or any hard, smallish ball); hold for 30 seconds or as long as you can, keeping abs pulled in tight and arms strong with shoulders squared, not hunched.
Killer abs: reverse v crunches
Lie on the floor with legs straight up in the air; lower them to a wide V, feet flexed. Bring feet back together while you lift hips and twist left, then centre. Lower hips and return to V. Repeat, twisting hips to right. Do 15 times per side.
Terrific thighs: single leg lifts
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, hands on hips. Bend right knee slightly and lower your upper body toward the floor as you slowly lift left leg behind you with foot flexed; pause, then return to start. Do 15 times, switch legs and repeat.
And her last-minute fix...
Taking no chances she’ll put on even half a kilo, David recommends taking appetite suppressants a week before hitting the red carpet. “I provide my clients with “Thermo Bubbles,” said Kirsch. “Natural appetite suppressants and fat burners.”
